Wood and Wood Products
The Walnut Place - Figured Wood for Custom Furniture - Claro Walnut SpecialistAt The Walnut Place we take great pride in milling our own lumber and drying it slowly in a low-temperature wood fired kiln. We specialize in Claro Walnut (California Black Walnut) and Paradox Walnut (Bastogne Walnut). We also carry limited quantities of other species such as Camphor, Sycamore (London Plain), and California Black Oak.
Our specialty, Claro Walnut, is a wonderful wood to work with. It has fantastic color and finishes beautifully.
Most of our wood is milled into 4-quarter, 6-quarter, and 8-quarter sawn boards. The 4/4 material is cut at 1-¼” thick, 6/4 is cut at 1-¾”, and the 8/4 material is cut at 2 - 5/16” thick to give clients the dimensions they need for custom projects.
We do our best to keep lumber together in matched sets of sequentially cut boards, giving clients the opportunity to complete a project entirely from lumber out of one tree, ensuring color or grain continuity.
Our shop owner, Robert, has been making furniture since 1981 and as a life-long professional furniture maker, he understands the needs, concerns, and complexities of woodworking projects. If you have specific lumber needs for a project, please reach out to discuss. As an experienced woodworker and mill operator, Robert can help you identify select boards with unique wood grain patterns most suitable to your custom project.
If you visit www.robertbeauchamp.com you will see furniture Robert has made using lumber from The Walnut Place.
The www.thewalnutplace.com features turning blocks and small boards. Please note that large slabs and boards are available, however they are not listed on the website at the moment. Please call us if you have questions about large slabs and boards. We can set up a site visit or send photos of our inventory. We have over 20,000 board feet available.
For those interested in material all from one tree, we can show samples of sequentially cut boards from specific trees. We also have a considerable amount of highly figured wood, great for instruments and furniture.

Other Products and Services
We have over 20,000 board feet of lumber available. We do mail-order sales as well as on site pick up. We will sell in quantities ranging from a single turning block to a truck load of high quality slabs.
We generally have several dozen logs in our yard. We are happy to custom mill one of our logs for you, if you have specific needs.
We have a selection of turning blocks on hand and are willing to cut blanks to order. We have a limited number of both dry and wet (and fully waxed) turning blanks.
All the trees we harvest are either dead, dying or being removed for specific reasons (i.e. road widening, new construction, uprooting a house or garage, etc.) In this sense, our wood supply is generated from small-scale salvage logging projects.
