DESCRIPTION:
A very heavy and tough wood, English oak has a long and rich history. Heartwood is variable in appearance, usually pale yellow-brown, changing to darker shades of brown when aged and exposed. Sapwood is distinct and light colored. Grain is typically straight. When fully quartered, the grain appears to have light-colored and lustrous flakes throughout. Very good steaming bending and fuming ability. This wood will corrode metals because of its high tannic acid content. Quality of finish varies with imperfections in wood, such as knots, etc. Used for high-grade construction, framing and keels of ships, gates, fence posts, exterior joinery, flooring, and coffins.
