DESCRIPTION:
A bright orange red, with variegated stripes of dark brown and tan, sometimes with pin knot accents. It has a natural lustre. The grain is usually straight to interlocked, and has a smooth fine texture. The blunting effect is severe, making it occasionally difficult to work. The cutting angle must be reduced to 15 degrees for planing or moulding quartered stock. Needs pre-boring. Has good screw-holding properties. Used for dye wood, best quality violin bows, ornamental turnery, gun stocks, exterior joinery, panelling, dock and wharf building, jetties, heavy duty parquet flooring.
