Wood and Wood Products

The Walnut Place - Claro Walnut specialist - You are buying wood from two woodworkers who understand the needs, concerns, and complexities of your woodworking projects. Robert and Michael have been making furniture since 1981. If you have specific needs in lumber for a project, we will be able to provide you with wood that we, as furniture makers, think will be best to fill those needs.

If you visit www.robertbeauchamp.com you will see some furniture we have made using lumber we have milled. We do not have photos of boards on that site. Please call us if you have any questions. At www.thewalnutplace we feature photographs of individual boards, as well as sets of boards. We will also show samples of lumber cut from specific trees (for those interested in having material all from one tree). We have a considerable amount of highly figured wood. All of our boards are labeled squentially for ease in finding matched sets.

We grade our fiddleback walnut on a 1 to 5 scale (5 being the most highly figured grade). Not all grades are available in all thicknesses.
Quarter sawn walnut 4/4, 6/4, 8/4
Camphor (limited quantity) 8/4
Figured Camphor (limited quantity) 8/4
Chestnut (limited quantity) 8/4, the boards are all 9+' long
Almond (limited quantity) 4/4, 8/4

We have many sequentially cut sets with 10 or more boards in a set.

Other Products and Services

We are happy to custom mill one of our logs for you, if you have specific needs. We generally have several dozens of logs in our yard to choose from.

We have a small selection of turning blocks on hand and are willing to cut blanks to order. We have a limited number of both dry and wet (and fully waxed) turning blanks.

Custom Furniture Maker for 29 years - Here is a partial list of some of the furniture pieces I have made using the wood I have harvested--Chest of Drawers, Nightstands, Desks, Bedrooms, Tables, Dining Chairs, Rockers, Couches, End Tables, Cabinets, Hutches, Bookcases, Entry Tables, Blanket Chests. The Claro walnut is wonder wood to work with. It has fantastic color and works very nicely, and finish beautifully. I am always happy with the finished product.

All the trees we harvest are either dead, dying or being removed for specific reasons (other than just to be made into lumber) i.e. road widening, new construction, they are uprooting a house or garage, etc. I am fequently asked to evaluate the quality of trees by homeowners wishing to have their tree not just be cut for firewood but to see if their tree might be of good enough quality to be made into furniture quality lumber. I too do not like to see trees just cut for firewood!
